2024 Fairfax Evacuation Drill

9/28 Stop by and visit with Cascade Canyon FireWise & local authorities

The Town of Fairfax, Ross Valley Fire Department, & Fairfax Police Department welcome you to participate in our first townwide evacuation drill on Saturday, Sept 28 at St Rita's church. Bring your Go Bag and practice evacuating safely. There will be several informational booths. Ask all your questions at this special townwide event.

https://www.townoffairfax.org/event/townwide-evacuation-drill

Our goal is for all Marin residents to be prepared to immediately evacuate if ordered by public safety agencies. This means residents should have an evacuation plan, understand our system of alerts and warnings, have a go bag, know the evacuation route options, know how to secure their home prior to departure properly, and be able to evacuate quickly.

Evacuation Drill Plan

1. Receive Nixle Alert

  • 5:00 PM on Friday, September 27, to announce the drill.
  • 9:50 AM on Saturday, September 28 to announce the siren will be activated
  • 9:50-10 AM on Saturday, September 28, the siren will sound before the drill begins.

2. Drill starts at 10 AM

  • Grab your Go Bag (one for each person in the family and pets)
  • Power can go out before a fire strikes. Be prepared to communicate without power.
  • Review Action Plan: Designate safe meeting place. Know evacuation routes. Make sure you have a full tank of gas and park facing the street. Have a plan for pets. Review Family Communication Plan by designating an out-of-area contact in case of separation. Cell/phone/internet will be limited/overloaded during a disaster. Use evacuation checklist. Check on neighbors. Go!

3. Leave within 15 minutes of the drill starting.

4. Head to St Rita's to check in. Booths with local agencies and Cascade Firewise will be there.

Thank them for the opportunity to practice as a group.

Welcome!
